Battling Salterbeck book DCS final place

SALTERBECK are through to the Dale Campbell-Savours Cup final after a storming semi-final performance.

Up against Egremont - who fielded several of their first teamers who were without a National Conference fixture - the Storm won 30-22.

At one point Salterbeck were 18-0 down as Egremont - looking comfortable for a win.

But Salterbeck came fighting back and early in the second half were on level terms with Lee Jardine converting touchdowns by Steven Humphries, Ross Cape and Daniel Riddick.

The Storm went in front on 56 minute when Ryan McClure barged his way over and Jardine added the extras, but Egremont looked likely to force at least extra time when John Hartley crossed in reply. But Brocklebank's conversion attempt, however, bounced back off a post.

And Salterbeck duly booked their date in the final with Cockermouth with a late try by Humphries, which Jardine converted.

Cockermouth made the final with a 34-10 success at Frizington. Frizington, 18-0 down at half-time, struggled to contain Cockermouth’s John Patrick, who powered over for four tries.

Gareth Skillen, Richard Boye and Mark Haycock scored the visitors’ other touchdowns and Craig Fisher kicked three goals. Frizington earned plaudits for a revival in which Sean Nicholson and Barry Palmer crossed, Wayne Dunn adding a conversion.

Ellenborough are still coming on a storm in their late run to overtake Kells for the John Smith’s Cumberland League division one title.

They devastated town nieghbours Glasson 52-0 helped by a hat-trick by speedster David Sewell.

Opposite winger Dean Scholey also showed his paces with a brace, Stephen Stoddart contributed a try and six goals, and Kyle Lofthouse, Shane Ackerley and Lee Halbert touched down.

And Ellenborough’s celebrations were unconfined when veteran prop Jason Moore powered over for a rare touchdown.

On Tuesday evening Kells maintained their five-point lead with a 60-0 win at Great Clifton while Ellenborough beat Wath Brow 38-0.

Seaton have edged above Broughton Red Rose into the top four after a 12-6 victory at Maryport.

Seaton created a 10-point buffer at the break with a try and a goal by winger Duncan Moyles and a touchdown for Calum Phillips.

Andrew Cartwright crossed in the second period for Maryport and converted his own score, but the visitors added a Moyles penalty.
