Seton star Richard George and his Barla Great Britain Lions team-mates crashed out of the Dubai Rugby Sevens in the quarter-finals.
George starred on both days of the competition, but couldn’t help the Lions progress to the final, as they lose 33-7 to the more experienced Aqua Marine Services.
Coach Tony Spence said: “We can hold our heads up after giving a great account of ourselves.”
George was one of four Cumbrians in the squad with Egremont duo Rhys Davies and John Paul Brocklebank and Millom’s Craig Wilson also involved.
Competing in Pool A of the international tournament, the Lions beat The Tigers 38-7 before winning 52-7 over Ureni RFC Armenia.
They lost by the same embarrassing score at the start of day two at the hands of Reservoir Group Pyrenees.
