Athletic call for West Cumbrian youngsters

Youngsters inspired by the prospect of watching the world’s greatest track and field stars perform in the Olympic Games can have their own try at athletics.

Three sessions will be held at Workington leisure centre - the first being next Saturday (1pm-3pm) which will be free.

The other sessions are on July 31 and August 14 (both 12noon-1pm) at a cost of £2. The sessions are for children aged six-14.

They are being given by Seaton Athletic Club in association with Carlisle Leisure, the company which runs the centre.

Seaton is one of the best athletics clubs in Cumbria and recently provided a quarter of the Cumbria Schools team which competed in the English Schools Championships at Gateshead’s international stadium.

The sessions will cover everything athletic and will be followed by even more chances to try the sport.

Seaton AC will also be holding training evenings at Cumbria Sports Academy, Whitehaven, on August 15, 22 and 29, 5pm-6pm each day.

These sessions are for those aged eight and above and transport will be provided from Workington Leisure Centre.

For more information and to register contact the leisure centre on 01900 61771.
