Giant Danish midfielder Philip Billing is the latest player to try to impress Carlisle United manager Keith Curle.

The Huddersfield Town teenager – who has quite a resemblance to Belgian international, the former Everton and now Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini – featured in the Blues side that lost 2-1 to Queen of the South in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Billing, a Denmark Under-19 international, has been training with the Cumbrians this week.

It is believed United are looking at the 6ft 4in prospect with a view to a possible loan move.

He was handed a 90-minute outing in yesterday’s game on the training pitch at Brunton Park.

Billing, 19, has been on Huddersfeld’s books for the last two years and is regarded highly at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The second-year pro has captained the Terriers’ U21 side, but may have found himself down the pecking order at the Yorkshire club following the arrival of Carlisle’s Kyle Dempsey this summer.

He joined Huddersfield from Danish club Esbjerg in 2013 and has so far made one senior outing for the Terriers, a sub appearance against Leicester in April last year aged 17.

Another trialist, Nicky Walker, was on target for Carlisle from the penalty spot in yesterday’s game.

The Boston winger is hoping to win a permanent deal with the Cumbrians, with the new League Two season just three days away.

United gave Alex McQueen a 45-minute outing after suspension, with first-team hopefuls Steven Rigg and Kevin Osei playing the full game.

There were also outings for the five transfer-listed players Danny Kearns, Antony Sweeney, Courtney Meppen-Walter, Troy Archibald-Henville and Gary Dicker.

Manager Curle watched the game but head of recruitment Lee Dykes was in charge of the side.

Dykes told the United website: “It was a good chance for us to get pitch time for some of the players who haven’t played recently and for us to look at a couple of trial players.

“Queen of the South approached it in the right way and it was a useful afternoon for us.”

Queens No2 Gavin Skelton, the former Workington Reds boss, was pleased with the work-out for his Scottish Championship side, who also included trialists.

Veteran striker Paul Heffernan scored both goals for the Scottish Championship side.
