Manager Keith Curle says extra creativity in the middle of the park is at the top of his wanted list this summer.

The Carlisle United boss believes he needs more players who can unlock defences in League Two next term.

Curle also says he wants to add an extra "killer instinct" in attack as he tries to turn the Blues into promotion contenders.

United struggled to convert draws into victories during their 2015/16 run-in which resulted in a 10th-placed finish.

And the Carlisle manager said: "I think there are key attributes that we missed at times.

"We need a bit of pace and dynamics in midfield.

"At times we've been able to handle ourselves, but we haven't been able to give people chasings.

"I'm looking for dynamic midfield players that will be challenging people like Luke Joyce and Jason Kennedy, who I think have had a good, solid season."

Curle has already met one Scotland-based target but is facing a major summer of recruitment work having released 10 players from last season's squad.

The United boss is also this week expecting replies from Tom Miller and Alex McQueen on his contract offers.

On the qualities he wants to add, Curle said: "Have we been creating enough in the final third, have we shown enough killer instinct up front?

"I want to bring in two centre-forwards, two wide players, midfield players, another centre-back, a goalkeeper.

"I want doesn’t always get, but I know there's a need and necessity for certain players."
