Mark Gillespie believes Carlisle United can put together another unbeaten home run to help propel them into the League Two play-off places.

Goalkeeper Gillespie has been part of the Blues side who have lost just two games at Brunton Park this season – the 1-0 defeat to strugglers Newport County in September and the 3-2 reverse to Morecambe earlier this month.

Prior to the defeat to Newport, Keith Curle’s side went on a 10-game unbeaten home run stretching back to March before it was halted by Terry Butcher’s men last month.

And 23-year-old Gillespie reckons he and his teammates must continue to relish playing in front of their own supporters, and look to replicate that record, if they’re to force their way back into the top seven.

“I think at home you need to pick up as many wins as you can, and whatever you get on the road is more of a bonus,” said the Newcastle-born custodian, who is expected to line up between the sticks when the Blues welcome Yeovil Town on Saturday (Brunton Park, 3pm).

“We’ll be looking to try and get another unbeaten run going at home.

“We had the 10 games before the Newport game so we’ll look to do that, and if we can we’ll definitely be in amongst the top seven.

“It’s a home game this weekend and we know every game’s difficult, but it’s one that we’d like to win and if we do that we should be right back amongst the play-off places.

“It’s a really good opportunity for us to play well and hopefully pick up three points.”

Paul Sturrock’s Yeovil side are currently second bottom of League Two, with just two wins so far and only one in their last 10 outings.

But Gillespie has warned against complacency ahead of the visit of the Glovers, who could include former United forward Mark Beck, and called on his team-mates to build on last weekend’s draw at Wycombe.

“We showed with the Newport game that if we’re off our game, any team in the league can come here and win so there’ll definitely be no complacency or lack of focus from the lads,” he said.

“We know we need to back up the point on Saturday with three this weekend. If we’re not right, Yeovil will be looking to capitalise.

“We know they’ll come here and put in a big shift, and they need to get a result because they’re down there.”
