Andrew Jenkins claims he was offered £50 to sell his shares in Carlisle United.

The chairman also insisted fellow owner John Nixon had been offered £25 for his stake in the Blues.

Long-serving Jenkins approached the News & Star after United’s win at Morecambe to make the claims.

It came a day after businessmen and Carlisle United Official Supporters’ Club set out to CUOSC members their investment proposal which has so far been rebuffed by the Brunton Park hierarchy.

The 79-year-old Jenkins owns 37.32 per cent of United’s holding company, which owns 94 per cent of the club.

Nixon’s stake is 18.7 per cent.

CUOSC, who own 25.4 per cent, are involved with a business consortium led by Robin Brown and Graham Mossop with a £2m investment offer.

CUOSC did not comment directly on Jenkins' claims but said their proposal remains on the table and they were keen for further talks with United's owners.

Nigel Davidson of the CUOSC board said: "Obviously Andrew Jenkins, as a genuine, astute and successful local businessman, with Carlisle United at heart, would only accept safe, sensible and constructive share or investment offers.

"A sum that would allow much of his loans [personal and via his business] to be repaid forms part of the current investment proposal, and is dependent on the current cash position of the club."

It is now 286 days, meanwhile, since United announced an approach from an overseas 'billionaire'.

Jenkins recently claimed the club had asked the mystery party’s agent to “know where we stand”.

*BLUES defender Michael Raynes was the only player from the bottom two divisions to be named in the Capital One Cup team of the tournament.

Raynes impressed in United's run to the third round, which saw the Blues narrowly beaten on penalties at Liverpool.

*GRANT Holt scored his first goal for nearly 16 months as Rochdale beat Sheffield United 2-0 in League One.

The Carlisle-born striker, who recently rejoined Dale, came off the bench to score their second in the 81st minute.
