Winger Joe Thompson has today become Carlisle United's 11th new signing of the summer.

The trialist has agreed a six-month deal at Brunton Park.

Thompson's contract includes the option to extend his stay with Keith Curle's side.

The 26-year-old has been with the Cumbrians since the early stages of pre-season, featuring in United's friendlies.

The ex-Rochdale, Tranmere and Bury man is the latest member of a summer influx of new faces ahead of the new 2015/16 League Two season.

Thompson will be in the squad to face Oldham in tomorrow's friendly.

He is the second trialist to win a deal with the Cumbrians, after Kevin Osei signed a deal of similar length on Tuesday.

The Rochdale-born player has rebuilt his career after recovering from cancer, which kept him out of the game for nearly a year.

He was available as a free agent after leaving promoted Bury at the end of last season, having had loan spells at Wrexham and Southport.

"Joe has earned this opportunity because he has knuckled down and worked extremely hard," said manager Curle.
