New loan forward Hallam Hope insists he doesn’t mind stepping down a division to help fire Carlisle United up League Two.

Former Everton frontman Hope joined the Blues on a month’s loan from Bury last week.

The 21-year-old had an eventful debut in the 1-1 draw on Saturday, starting up front before having

to drop deeper following Luke Joyce’s first-half dismissal.

But Hope, whilst keen to make his mark as a striker, says he’s willing to get his head down and graft wherever he’s required during his four-week stay at Brunton Park, and reckons there isn’t much different between the standard in Leagues One and Two.

“I didn't mind coming down a division. I don’t think there’s a lot of difference in the levels around these leagues,” he said.

“When you go to the Premier League that’s obviously a huge step up, but around League One and League Two they are a similar level of players.

“It's about getting into the rhythm of a few games and playing in my preferred position. I didn’t get to do that against Wycombe for very long, but that was because of the red card, but I don’t mind putting the work in and a shift in for the team.

He added: “I’ve settled in well, it's a good group of lads and I'm getting along with them all already. The manager’s good and I like the way he’s trying to play. I'm looking forward to getting some games and some goals.”

Hope played in the Championship as recently as last season, when he featured in four second-tier games on loan at Sheffield Wednesday from Everton.

He has scored once in 10 appearances for the Shakers this term.

And Hope revealed that manager Keith Curle, coupled with the presence of a few familiar faces, persuaded him to make the temporary switch to Cumbria.

“The move happened quickly, all on the same day. It was an easy decision,” he said.

“I've seen a few of the games and know how the gaffer likes to play. I spoke to him on the phone before I came and I liked what I heard.

“I know Joe Thompson, he was at Bury last year, I know Courtney Meppen-Walter, he’s from around the same area as me, and Michael Raynes as well.

“I've been a bit in and out [at Bury] – I just need to come and get some game-time now and score some goals.”
