WORKINGTON Comets take on Glasgow in the Premier Trophy at Derwent Park tomorrow and then head south for two difficult Premier League meetings.
On Monday they take on Reading - a hot tip for the league title - and Isle of Wight just 24 hours later.
Comets team manager Ian Thomas said: “A lot of people have picked Reading to win the league so it’s going to be tough. Our former rider Ulrich Ostergaard has started the season like a train for the Racers.
“Then it’s the Isle of Wight who are always a handful on their own track and will take some beating.
“But away wins are vital this year, with three points at stake, and it would be nice to bring something back from our southern tour.”
Before then, though, they face Glasgow at Derwent Park (7pm start) when the Bad Boy of British soap will be a special guest.
Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt in the popular Coronation Street show, will meet fans and riders, including 16-year-old Joe Haines and Charles Wright who fly the flag for Workington speedway at next week’s British U21 final.
Haines and Wright have qualified for the British final at Lakeside on April 25. Haines won the round at King’s Lynn and Wright was third.
Thomas believes the Workington pair are just picking up form at the right time to make an impression at Lakeside.
He said: “We have three more meetings before they go to Lakeside and I’m hoping they will continue to pick up points.
