Workington Comets boss Laura Morgan has warned her side that they cannot afford to rely on another miraculous comeback when they welcome high-flying Peterborough tomorrow.

The Panthers have had a barn-storming season to sit second in the Premier League and will boast a number of ex-Comets in their line-up when they visit the Zebra Claims Stadium tomorrow night (7pm start).

And Comets, who trailed by 10 points in last Saturday's home clash with Newcastle before turning the meeting on its head to win by seven, cannot rely on the away side allowing them a foothold back into the fixture for a second consecutive meeting.

Morgan said: "This will be one of our toughest meetings, not just because they're second in the league but because they're a really tough team.

"They're an absolute powerhouse at home and they love our track.

"We're going to have to be very careful what we do, we need to lead from the start because we can't afford to fall behind at all and hope to come back into it.

"Last weekend was not good enough, you can put up with it once in a while if you now you're going to win other meetings to make up for it but that was a struggle."

Peterborough's Simon Lambert, who impressed for the Comets last season before electing to join the Panthers this year, will be missing with a shoulder injury and the visitors have drafted in another former Workington rider in Ashley Morris as his replacement.

Panthers will use rider replacement for Lewis Blackbird and ex-Comet Josh Grajczonek has been drafted in as a guest for Robert Lambert.

Morgan said: "Simon has been their kingpin this year, it's obviously been a brilliant season for him.

"It's a clever replacement because if anybody's going to know the track it's Ashley.

"That said, the way Simon is going at the moment he probably would have been good for a lot more damage.

"It's always nice to see Ashley, he's a lovely lad and I was really sorry when he had his accident and we couldn't fit him back in the team."

Ricky Wells will become the new Comets No1 next month after new averages were released this week. He will make his debut there against his former club Sheffield next Saturday.

Morgan said it was a credit to the American rider and that he had secured the spot on merit.

She added: "Since the beginning of the year and probably the back end of last season, it was only going to be a matter of time.

"Ricky deserves it, he's got there on his own merit and nobody can deny that."

Meanwhile, the kids-for-a-quid promotion will continue tomorrow until schools resume – children between five and 15 accompanied by an adult can get in for £1.
