Workington Comets rider Matthew Wethers has opted to return to his former club Berwick for the 2016 campaign.

Wethers, who used to captain Berwick, spent two seasons with the Bandits before making the switch to Workington Comets 2015 after visa issues over the winter.

The Australian is now set to ride against Comets in the Premier League next season for one of the West Cumbrian team's closest rivals.

Berwick promoter John Anderson said: “Matty returned to Shielfield in August to rack up 16 points, adding another handy haul of 11 on the left-hand coast the following day. He comes back as a Bandit on a tasty average of 4.96, and we feel he is an excellent, ultra-reliable signing.

“His work permit problems are behind him, he and his family can stay in Britain for as long as they want and he really expressed a desire to return to us. The deal was fairly easy to broker.”
