Workington Comets have signed Danish star Claus Vissing.

Vissing, 29, started last season at Berwick before a serious injury sustained in May ruled him out for the campaign.

He joins Comets on a 7.54 average, behind only Ricky Wells in the rankings, and club owner Laura Morgan said it was a move Vissing had been chasing for some time.

She said: "I am very happy to have Claus on board.

"Claus is a guy who has wanted to ride for Workington before and has chased a place in the line-up during other seasons.

"For me and for the supporters it brings another exciting rider into the fold.

"He is somebody who is going to thrill the supporters and put on a good show because he can go around the boards at Workington.

"He is an 8.00 average guy really so I would expect him to put a point or two on his average.

"We are used to having a couple of Danes.

"He spent quite a lot of last season out through injury but having spoken to him he's having some physio now and is very confident he'll be 100 per cent fit by the start of the season."

Vissing, who will also ride for Swedish side Griparna next year, made his debut in 1995 for Danish side Grindsted and has since ridden for a host of British clubs including reigning Premier League champions Edinburgh.

He is Comets' fifth signing after they completed deals for Adam Roynon and returning favourites Kenneth Hansen, Ricky Wells and Matt Williamson.

Morgan added: "I'm very happy with what we've got so far.

"I think, and it's no disrespect meant to any of the riders who won't be joining us this year, it'll make a refreshing change and it's probably what's needed.

"Let's try things from a different angle with a completely new team with a completely new dynamic.

"It's exciting times, I think it's fair to say."
