West Cumbrian speedway ace Craig Cook believes he is in the form of his career ahead of this weekend's Premier League Fours.

Former Comet Cook, who now rides for the club's Premier League rivals and this year's Fours hosts Peterborough, has turned around his season after a stuttering start and says he is now in a much happier place.

Cook says: "I'd been struggling with my engines and what I was using just wasn't producing the goods.

"I was told it was exactly what I was looking for so coming into the season I was pleased because it would be all singing and dancing but it was two steps backwards.

"I was starting to feel a bit depressed and down after putting so much time and effort in.

"To have my engine tuner telling me it's me, I started second-guessing myself and wondering whether he was right.

"Thankfully we changed some things and normal service has resumed.

"I'm probably riding the best I have in my whole career right now.

"I'm in a happy place now but I still want to take another step forward."

Cook is a regular face on the terraces at Comets meetings and admits he still has a soft spot for the club.

"I'm still a fan of speedway and I've been fortunate to make a living from it so I like to show support not just to the sport but to Workington," he says.

"They've done a lot for me in the past and I want to support the club as much as I can.

"I've still got a lot of time for Laura and all the people involved.

"I like to cheer the lads on because it's my local team."

But the 29-year-old won't be rooting for Comets this weekend or when his side visit the town a week later and has his sights firmly set on staying in-form for the Speedway World Cup at the end of the month.

Cook has already won the Fours and says it would be nice to add the trophy to the cabinet for his new club on their own shale.

"Big things will be expected of Peterborough on our home track but I'm feeling comfortable," he says.

"We're coming off a couple of defeats at home and we want to redeem ourselves.

"The boys have definitely got something to prove.

"With the World Cup coming up hopefully I keep on impressing people and let my riding do the talking."
