Speedway fans are expected to head to Workington's Waverley Hotel in their droves tonight for a meeting on the sport's long-term future in the town.

Comets owner Laura Morgan, in a statement on the club’s website, has invited supporters to attend an open forum meeting at the hotel, starting at 7pm.

Morgan, who bought the club from Keith Denham in October 2012, wants supporters to help come up with ideas to improve finances and better promote the club.

She said the current state of the club was not sustainable in the long run and has called on supporters to help.

However, she stressed that her intention was to continue to run speedway in the town for the 2016 season, but changes would need to be made to continue run it beyond that period.

One idea that could be discussed at the meeting is the possible creation of a committee of fans to support the management team in promoting the club.

The results of a recent survey conducted with fans will also discussed.
