Flimby firm Thomas Armstrong Limited will return as Workington Comets' main sponsor this season.

The company first became involved with Comets in 1999, backing club legend Carl Stonehewer and this will be the 11th successive season as the team's main sponsor.

Club owner Laura Morgan said: “It is fantastic news to have Thomas Armstrong back on board as our main sponsor for 2017.

“The support that Keith Denham and his business give us over the season is invaluable to our operation and he is clearly very passionate about the sport.

"It is great that we get to see him down at Derwent Park enjoying his speedway with his family on race-nights.

“Keith Denham has been involved with the Comets as a sponsor or a promoter since the sport returned to the town in 1999 and for him to continue his support, and for us to have the backing of such a high profile local company, is great news.”

Established in 1830, the company is one of the biggest local employers with core businesses of construction services, the supply of aggregates and manufacture of building products.

Co-promoter Steve Whitehead said the deal was a boost heading into an exciting time for the club.

He added: “We are moving into a new era of the Comets with the new deal that we have in place with the rugby league club and we are delighted that Keith Denham is happy to continue backing us in what could be a very exciting year."
