Former Workington Comets star Craig Cook has left reigning Premier League champions Edinburgh in order to further his international aspirations.

The 28-year-old Monarchs skipper Cook led the Monarchs to a string of trophies during his five years at Armadale and has also doubled-up in recent seasons with Elite League side Belle Vue.

Cook, of Cleator Moor, wants to take on more commitments in Europe, so has decided to compete in one UK league rather than two.

Cook said: “This has been a very hard decision for me as the captain of the Monarchs but if I want to ride internationally in top-flight speedway, this is something I have to do to try and secure a 2017 GP place via the GP qualifiers.

“I would like to thank the club and the fans for all their support in what was a very triumphant and enjoyable five years as a Monarch.

"I wish the Monarchs all the very best for the 2016 race season and beyond.

"I owe a lot to the Monarchs as I wouldn’t be the rider I am today without the help and support from all you guys.”
