Wells, who left Comets to join Edinburgh in December, will be joined by fellow ex-Comet Nathan Greaves and Nicolai Klindt in the line-up, which also features all seven current Comets and six other as yet unannounced guests.
The individual contest will raise the curtain on Comets’ season on March 25 and club owner Laura Morgan expects Wells’ battle with new Workington No1 Craig Cook to be a highlight.
She said: “I’m always happy to see former Comets coming back to Workington and to see Ricky Wells racing against Craig Cook is going to be something else.
“We actually looked at Nicolai Klindt when we were team building because he comes in this year on a really good average. He can ride well around Derwent Park and I think he’s someone who will very quickly get used to a track.”
Greaves signed for Comets in 2015 before being side-lined with a broken leg in a horror crash.
He will ride for National League side Isle of Wight and top flight Wolverhampton this year.
