Workington Comets team manager Tony Jackson believes that the Zebra Claims Stadium has become the place to be following an influx of new supporters in recent weeks.

The club have introduced £10 admission for fixtures, including tomorrow's home fixture against Newcastle, and £1 entry for children during the summer holidays to drum up support.

Comets also attended Cockermouth Show last weekend to help raise the club's profile.

Jackson said: "We're looking to build on what we did last weekend when we had the crowd significantly up on the back of Cockermouth Show.

"We want to carry on with the £10 admission and kids for a quid and Laura Morgan is very keen to carry that on.

"We had a lot of people there for the first time and there was a lot of excitement and atmosphere.

"It's been a bit stop-start with the fixtures, but we've got fixtures every weekend and hopefully we can get people into the habit of going.

"Hopefully we can get people through the turnstiles and people who thought they wouldn't enjoy it have enjoyed it."

This weekend Comets have a league double header with a home fixture against Newcastle on Saturday and an away trip to Glasgow on Sunday.

Jackson added: "Newcastle are a solid team and one of the toughest.

"We will have to be on top of our game and it could come down to the very last heat.

"Glasgow were one of the pre-season favourites for the title and have a few ex-Workington riders.

"It will be a tough match."
