A bumper weekend of speedway will see Workington Comets race three meetings in four days as they aim to climb into the play-offs places.

Comets' crunch away clash at Peterborough has been rearranged for tonight (7.30pm start) after being postponed last weekend due to a waterlogged track.

The Panthers are just six points ahead of Workington in the final top six spot so a maximum points win for Comets would be a huge boost in their bid to extend their season.

Comets owner Laura Morgan said: "I still remain quietly optimistic that we can get something from Peterborough.

"I'm confident because we've got a few riders that go well around there and the Fours was a good example.

"All the boys know we've got to come away with something to stay in contention."

Tomorrow night (7pm start) sees the return of Maryport rider Richard Lawson with Glasgow, while Comets asset and former captain Rene Bach will have the bit between his teeth on his Workington return.

Morgan added: "Glasgow have such a good team, they've got four or five people capable of being a Premier League No1.

"It's going to be a very tough time. Rene is still a Workington asset and will be wanting to come and impress as Richard always does.

"We need to beat them and get maximum points."

Sunday is a chance to recharge for six of the Comets, while skipper Ricky Wells will represent the club in the Premier League Riders' Championship at Sheffield (5.30pm start).

Wells finished runner-up behind Ulrich Ostergaard in the event last season and Morgan is sure he will want to go one better for the fans this time.

"Ricky will have last year in his mind so he'll be wanting to go there and do himself justice," Morgan said.

"It's a track he's ridden many times and one he likes and I wouldn't say Ricky is worse than any of the other riders.

"He can beat them all on a good day and he's one of the top riders in the league so deserves to be up there in the championship.

"I've no doubt there'll be the usual throng of vocal Workington supporters there and I'm sure Ricky will want to win it for them."

Comets then travel to rivals Newcastle on Monday (7.30pm start), who are on a hot run of form which has seen them climb to third in the table.

Morgan said: "Newcastle's not an easy place for anyone to go to and if you can't get out the gate you've had it.

"We just need to think about the times we've been there and rode well."

The kids-for-a-quid scheme will continue to run for home meetings against Glasgow tomorrow and Somerset next Saturday.
