Workington Comets manager Tony Jackson stressed every point could count as his side look to extend their League Cup group lead against Newcastle tomorrow (7pm start).

Comets won their first cup fixture at home on Saturday against Redcar to top the group and were due to race at the Bears' Media Prima Arena last night.

A strong pre-season from Newcastle has made them favourites with Comets to top the group and progress and Jackson said he would stress to his riders that even one point could make a difference.

"We're confident for every meeting with the team we've got and the lads feel they can beat anyone," he said.

"We certainly can't afford any slip-ups because no disrespect to Redcar but it looks like the top spot in the group will be decided between us and Newcastle.

"It could easily boil down to race points so I will be stressing to the lads that every race and every point counts."

Comets will be at full-strength for tomorrow's meeting, with Mason Campton and Adam Roynon closer to full fitness and Rasmus Jensen looking to build on his stellar debut last weekend.

Newcastle will use rider replacement for Matej Kus and Tero Aarnio is a doubt but Jackson admitted the Diamonds will still be stern opposition.

"It will be tough because they're a solid team right through," said Jackson.

"Lewis Rose at reserve is riding well at the moment and although Robert Lambert has never ridden Workington before, I don't think he'll have any problems adapting.

"Steve Worrall has also had some good meetings here before so we'll need to be on top of our game to beat them.

"They're one of the teams that we all think will be up there at the end of the season."

Meanwhile, following last weekend's meeting of the Friends of Workington Speedway, meeting sponsor Maintenance Network Ltd has invited members to use the second bend hospitality lounge during tomorrow's fixture.

Members will vote for committee members and arrange further meetings throughout the season.

Anyone considering joining the FOWS is welcome and information on the group will be available as well as standing order forms.
