Workington Comets manager Tony Jackson is guarding against complacency ahead of his side's first competitive home meeting against struggling Redcar tomorrow.

Comets were due to start their League Cup campaign at Redcar last night, with Rasmus Jensen making his debut.

The Bears will arrive at the Zebra Claims Stadium tomorrow (7pm start) for the second leg minus Jonas B Andersen but Jackson is not underestimating the threat they could pose.

He said: "We've got to make sure we win and although they've had a tough start, they're still there to be beaten.

"Lasse Bjerre is a good rider at No1 who goes well around Workington and Simon Nielsen can score points, especially at reserve.

"We've got riders who are still trying to get used to the track, obviously Rasmus being one of them.

"We just need a solid team performance."

Mason Campton had not recovered enough from a fractured collarbone sustained at Newcastle last month to feature yesterday but remained hopeful of being involved tomorrow night.

A promising performance despite bad weather last Sunday saw Comets run out 37-22 winners against Berwick but Jackson isn't reading too much into the victory given the conditions.

He said: "Last week you couldn't fault the effort but it wasn't fully representative of how we think the season will go.

"Obviously we're anticipating it being a bit drier so we can really see what the team can do.

"We've got a team of racers who even if they're out-gated are confident they can score points.

"It's just exciting to get going because it's been so stop-start.

"We had four pre-season fixtures scheduled but we've only raced one and a half really."

BLOB A FAN group set up to provide financial support to Workington Comets will hold a vital meeting after tomorrow's home fixture.

The Friends of Workington Speedway, which will contribute financially to the club, was first suggested at a crisis meeting about the club's future in September.

A meeting will be held at the Zebra Claims Stadium immediately after tomorrow's home fixture against Redcar, where a committee will be established to take the group forward.

Anyone interested in contributing to the club can attend.
