Workington Comets manager Tony Jackson feels his side have everything to play for in a thriller next weekend after battling to a 52-38 defeat at Somerset.

Comets started well in the first leg Knock Out Cup tie, but the in-form Rebels gradually took control of the meeting before developing a healthy advantage to take to Workington next Saturday.

Team manager Tony Jackson said the effort had been there but his side couldn't keep up with a changing track.

"Once they did a couple of track grades and the track slickened off we struggled," he said.

It was a fantastic start to get a 5-1 in the opening race and in heat two it was totally the wrong decision to exclude Matt Williamson.

"We had them worried when we were at 21-21 after seven races.

"They did one of their famous track grades and made it a bit slicker cause they knew we were getting in the dirt.

"Some of the racing was superb and Steve Worrall was a great guest for Ricky Wells."

Jackson said his side would be fired up for revenge as they look to progress in the cup next week and expects a tight encounter.

He added: "Everyone tried their absolute best for every point all night so it promises to be a thriller next weekend.

"After such a good start we were disappointed but we’re doing well at home and it sets it up nicely for the second leg."
