Workington Town centre Jason Mossop says he couldn’t have picked a better opponent in rivals Whitehaven to put the disappointment of Sunday’s 50-10 loss against London Broncos behind them.

Town welcome Whitehaven to Zebra Claims Stadium on Sunday for their fourth competitive derby of 2015 and Mossop is keen to put right the wrongs of Sunday’s defeat in the capital.

“It was just a bad day at the office,” the centre said. “It’s been going so well for us over the last few weeks and it was disappointing because we were off the ball on Sunday.

“But we know where we went wrong and it’s about building on that this weekend - we couldn’t have picked a better game to go into in that respect.

“Our defence has been really good recently and we’ve been putting in those 80 minute performances we were missing at the start of the year.

“Unfortunately that went out the window at the weekend.

“It’ll be really tough against Whitehaven on Sunday. Even though we’re at home I’m sure they’ll bring a lot of fans with them.

“It’s only a 10 minute drive for them and it’ll be a really physical game.

“They have been playing well recently and have improved as the year has gone on.

“They’ve had some setbacks recently but it’s similar to our defeats too.

“It’s a huge game for both of us, especially with us looking to get into the play-offs.”

Mossop also recently signed a contract extension which will keep him at the club for the next three years.

“It’s been good to get everything sorted quickly,” he added. “It was a really easy decision for me to make and, with me living up here, I didn’t even think of looking anywhere else.

“I’m enjoying my rugby, we’ve got a good team, a

good coach and it’s a great bunch of mates that I have at the club.”
