West Cumbrian speedway ace Craig Cook Craig Cook raced to victory in the season-opening Ben Fund Bonanza at King’s Lynn on Saturday.
The Belle Vue star and former Workington Comet, stormed to four wins out of four in his qualifying races and then completed a faultless display in the final.
But the event also saw Workington youngster Kyle Bickley withdraw from the action after suffering a shoulder injury.
And it was not good news for another ex-Workington favourite as Sheffield’s Simon Stead was ruled out through concussion.
He is now back home after crashing out of his first meeting in almost a year.
Stead, who is back to full fitness after suffering serious arm and leg injuries last April, tangled with Tigers team-mate Josh Bates in the charity meeting.
He said: "Talk about rotten luck in my first meeting back! I'm back at home resting up, I feel generally battered and bruised and sore all over.
"It's fair to say I've had better days."
