Ty Proctor would be happy to be a Comet again next year after reviving his speedway career with Workington this season.

The Australian racer, who is due to represent the club with Craig Cook in the Championship Pairs this weekend, admitted it is a waiting game until the British Speedway Promoters' Association's annual general meeting determines how the sport will be structured.

But the 30-year-old said he would have no problem calling Derwent Park his home again after making up for lost time with the club.

"I think there are going to be a lot of changes in the winter with speedway and I don't know what direction it's going in and what that means for me but I've enjoyed my time at Workington," he said.

"It's a family club and if I could come back to Workington, I think I would be happy to.

"The top league is very important to me, to get back there at some stage.

"I don't think anyone can make any plans until that AGM."

Comets have won the Pairs six times but last claimed the title in 2012 and Proctor hopes to end a frustrating season on a high by bringing it home again.

"It would be very nice because I don't want to use the word disappointing but this season hasn't gone to plan really," he said.

"We spoke the other day and said we're both up for it.

"Like Cookie said, if we can make the semi-final and go from there, that would be the plan."

After a strong start to the campaign put Comets in the mix for a play-offs place, Proctor said it was difficult to blame one thing for their slump to eighth in the Championship table.

"I think we were tracking really well and then it just went quiet and we haven't really been able to recover from that," he said.

"Adam left and James came in and no disrespect to him but he hasn't really been able to perform.

"At least the promotion were trying to be proactive but it hasn't worked.

"Rob walked out when I thought he was just getting to a level where he was riding okay, then Thomas got injured.

"The club would not be happy with how it's worked out but sometimes that's speedway."

And having watched his old club Sheffield dominate the Championship and win the play-offs final this season, Proctor wants to have that winning feeling this time next year.

He said: "Their team at the start of the year probably wasn't the one on paper to win the league but what I did see was a team that worked extremely hard and had a lot of self-belief.

"Here's hoping if I'm back at Workington we're in that position next year and we've won the league."
