Workington Comets have turned to star Chris Harris once again to plug the gap left by captain Craig Cook tomorrow night.

Cook will miss tomorrow night's trip to Ipswich and the Witches' visit to Derwent Park on Saturday to take part in the GP Challenge meeting at Togliatti in Russia on Saturday, with a place in next year’s Grand Prix series on the line.

Comets have been granted a guest facility by the BSPA management committee for tomorrow night's meeting to give Cook as much time as possible to travel and prepare.

Former Workington No1 Josh Grajczonek will guest for Cook at Derwent Park on Saturday, while Tom Woolley will be at No7 for both meetings.

Harris stood in for Cook against Redcar and Glasgow last month and the popular former British Champion and Grand Prix rider has been in fine form for Comets' SGB Championship rivals Peterborough.

But even with Harris in their ranks, Comets manager Tony Jackson admitted his side will need an almost perfect meeting to get a result at Ipswich, with the Witches second in the league and beaten at home just once this season.

Jackson said: "Chris Harris is a racer, he can ride anywhere and has loads of experience.

"It's a tough place to go, we're under no illusions.

"It's probably one we don't fancy ourselves in because we've not had good results there recently.

"If we come away with anything it would be a massive result and probably a shock.

"We'll need everyone to have a good meeting and them to have a bad one but we'll go there and do our best.

"James Sarjeant used to ride there so we'd hope he'd get a few points."

Meanwhile, the annual collection for the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund will be held during Saturday's home meeting against Ipswich.
