The threat of Redcar’s top trio cannot be underestimated, warned Workington Comets manager Tony Jackson, ahead of the Bears’ visit to Derwent Park tomorrow (7pm start).

Ben Barker and ex-Comet Charles Wright showed they know their way around the west Cumbrian circuit when both finished on the podium in the Cumberland Open last month, while Jason Garrity scored 11 points at Derwent Park while riding for Sheffield last season.

Jackson said: “They’ve got a strong top three and we saw how good Jason Garrity was last year.

"He’s a really spectacular, all-action rider who takes some catching if he gets out in front. Jonas B Andersen is also a very accomplished rider and probably a lot better than his average suggests.

“We’ve got to be on top of our game but we showed last weekend that we’re a match for anyone.

"The winners in all of this are the supporters who will get some great racing and it’s going be another exciting match.”

The Bears finished bottom of the second tier in 2015 and last year, but Jackson believes they are a much tougher proposition this season.

“They won’t be bottom this year,” he said.

“Everything has changed and you can tell that by some of the results we’ve seen in the league so far this season.

“There are no easy matches and it means that, if you have any misfortune, it can bite you and those points you drop could prove costly.”
