Craig Cook top-scored for Great Britain to lead his country to the Speedway World Cup final in spectacular style.

The Cleator racer continued his red hot form at King’s Lynn on Saturday to ensure the Lions will be fighting for a medal at Leszno, Poland, on Saturday.

The hosts stormed to five wins in the opening five races and never looked back to claim a comprehensive win ahead of Australia, the USA and the Czech Republic.

Robert Lambert, Chris Harris and Steve Worrall added 13 points each to Cook’s haul to book their place in the final with three races to spare.

Cook said: “We’re not going there to win a medal. We’re going to win. What’s the point of looking to finish second? We just have to believe.

“Yes, the Poles are good. The Swedes are good, the Australians are good and the Danes are good. They’re all good; they’re all fantastic in fact. But that doesn’t mean they’re unbeatable.

“If you think ‘we’re up against the Poles, we’re not going to win’, you’re defeating the object.

“You have to forget about who you’re racing and concentrate on your thing. It doesn’t matter what they’re doing. It’s irrelevant. You’re there to race the bike and I think that’s what has helped me this season.”

Proud team boss Alun Rossiter heaped praise on his riders for their dominant display.

“What a night, I’m one proud Great Britain manager at the moment,” he said. “The boys have all been so calm and relaxed.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to deal with these guys.

“The hard work seems to have paid off, and it was a fantastic performance from every single one of them.

“We’ll go into the final high on confidence and with the same attitude we had tonight.

“Hopefully it pays off again.”
