Popular Australian racer Mason Campton will be back at Workington Comets next season.

While the first two signings for 2018, Dan Bewley and Nicolai Klindt were new faces, club asset Campton is well-known to Comets supporters.

Campton enjoyed an uninterrupted and successful campaign for Workington last season, scooping the award for most bonus points at the club's presentation night and establishing himself as a dependable rider in the main body of the team.

He formed a solid partnership with Craig Cook and was frequently handed the responsibility of a tactical ride when Comets needed a big result

Campton comes back into the side on a 5.73 average.

Club owner Laura Morgan said: "Overall this will be Mason’s fourth season as a Comet and hopefully he will build on the progress he made in 2017 to make it his best season in the sport so far.

“2017 saw him add over a point to his average, with many more of his points coming away from home than previously had been the case.

“In many ways last season was something of a watershed campaign for him and we firmly believe that he can continue to progress in 2018.

"By his own admission he now needs to add more consistency to his racing and with that the points and an increased average will follow, benefiting him and the club.

“He is very much a team man, which was illustrated by the fact that he picked up more bonus points than anyone else in the side last season and he also stood in as captain whenever Craig was unavailable.

“He is currently back home in Australia and doing some racing while he is there which will ensure that he remains race-fit and can hit the ground running when he returns to the UK early next year in good time to prepare for the new season.”
