Workington Comets have signed Danish racer Thomas Jorgensen.

Jorgensen is Comets' second signing for the rebranded Championship next season after Matt Williamson committed to a third year at Derwent Park last Friday.

The former Scunthorpe and Berwick ace has been a long-term target for Comets' promotion and joins on a 7.45 average, leaving Workington 28.97 points for their remaining quintet.

Club owner Laura Morgan said: "We've looked at him the last couple of years because we really like him, he goes well around Workington and we think he has a lot of potential.

"We almost did a deal with him last year but at the last minute he decided he'd stay with Berwick.

"I'm aware Thomas has wanted to come to Workington and that makes a difference to me.

"He'll no doubt be in a few people's teams or wishlists for next year but I don't think too many people will be expecting him so it's a nice surprise.

"His equipment is second to none and he gets his head down and works, he's an absolute racer.

"He's exactly what you want to see around Workington and I think all the supporters will definitely agree.

"He's a guy who can put at least a point on his average and that's what we're looking for."

Comets allowed fans to vote on social media for one of two 'boxes' to decide which of their signings would be revealed.

One rider who will not be back at Derwent Park next season is Kenneth Hansen, who joined Peterborough on Monday.

And in a further treat for Comets fans, speedway pundit Nigel Pearson and former British Speedway Champion Kelvin Tatum will hold a talk-in at the ground on Friday, March 3.

The pair, who present Sky Sports' speedway coverage, will visit Workington on a pre-season tour which also includes Exeter, Somerset, Halifax, Newcastle and Berwick.

Pearson said: “I always enjoy going to Workington, I think the track there is excellent and I really hope the people in the town get behind the Comets next season.

“I’m sure we will have plenty of banter with the fans on the night, we’ve got some good stories to tell as well as offering honest views on everything about the sport."

Morgan added: "It is an honour to have Kelvin and Nigel's chat show come to Workington.

"It sounds like it will be a big night to be remembered for a long time to come.

"I am sure we will get lots of supporters out to this event and people will have to get their tickets early."

Meanwhile, Comets' fans' forum has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 1 at 7pm at Derwent Park.
