Fit again: Kyle Howarth will return for Workington Comets after recovering from his crash against Glasgow

Comets were due to take on Ipswich last night before racing at home to Glasgow tomorrow.

Howarth missed last Sunday’s draw with Glasgow after suffering the after effects of his crash against Berwick two weeks ago.

He had a spin at the Northside Training Track on Monday and confirmed he was able to race.

Team manager Tony Jackson said: “Our guests always do a good job but you can’t beat having your own seven riders.

“Kyle is bound to be stiff and sore after two weeks out but he is raring to go.”

Workington suffered heavy defeats at Ipswich last year and Jackson is hoping for better performances this time around.

He also feels the team will be better prepared this year.

He said: “Their track is a different shape, requires a different technique to ours and historically it is a place we have never done well at.

“However, Richard Lawson has got a different engine set up for smaller tracks, we have got Kyle back, it was Kenny Ingalls first time there last year and Rene Bach has had some good meetings there so we will be giving it our best shot.”

Workington will be hoping to bounce back from last week’s disappointing draw to Glasgow where they surrendered an eight-point lead with only two heats to go.

Jackson said they must forget that match and focus on this week’s meetings.

He added: “We want to maintain our good home record against Glasgow but last week’s matches have been and gone and we must focus on this week.”

Meanwhile, Adam Roynon is hoping his high-scoring runs in the Elite League can continue for Comets.

Roynon piled in a paid 11 points for Coventry against King’s Lynn last week then guested for Wolves on Monday scoring nine.

He said: “It has given me confidence but I was riding pretty well anyway.”
