Callum Moffat put in a captain's knock to see Workington home to an opening day victory in the North Lancs/Cumbria League premier division.

At home to Cleator, Workington won the toss and asked the visitors to bat. 

Cleator had to work hard for runs but with 53 from Gionne Koopman, they were 163-7 at tea. Matthew Lowden and Simon Beare both collected two wickets apiece.

And in reply Workington skipper Moffat made an important 79 to see his side get the win at 164-5 in the 40th over. Kaushalya Gajasinghe chipped in with 33.

At Cockermouth, Wigton were in first and made 200-8 in their 50 overs, Chris Hodgson taking 5-57. 

In reply Cockermouth went to an excellent win at 201-9 in the 46th over. Theodore Valeri making 112.

Keswick won their game at Dalton after posting a total of 233-7, with Geeth Kumara leading the way with an unbeaten 142. Andrew Byrson added 38.

They then rattled their hosts out for 111. Jamie D'leny claimed 3-14, Ben Sharp 3-22 and Jordan Woodend 3-34.

Champions Furness, entertained Whitehaven, who won the toss and batted first. Only Al Cahill with 53 not out, could cope with the Furness attack, and the visitors were all out for 84 in the 38th over. 

In reply Furness made 85 without loss in only 16.3 overs.

In the first division, Workington II did not fare as well as their first team. Haverigg hosted the Valentine Ground side and had first knock.

Pro Dalton Polius made an impressive debut, making 106 not out, and Haverigg were 246-4 when overs ran out.

In reply Workington, mainly due to Liam Hazzard’s 52, were all out for 166.

Carlisle failed to seal an emotional return to their flood damaged Edenside ground with an opening-day win over visitors Millom, falling 17-runs short of Millom’s 144 all out in 47 overs.

Lindal Moor were at Ulverston and went in first to make 224-9, then Ulverston’s batting fell apart to be 84 all out.

One heck of a game at Seascale saw almost 480 runs scored. Put into bat by Kirkby, Seascale made 240-8 in their 50 overs. Kirkby just failed to get the win, as overs ran out with 237-8 on the board. 

In division two, Hawcoat Park were at home to Cockermouth II and made 187-7, Andrew Dodds and Matthew Hodgson both taking three wickets apiece for the loss of 27 and 36 runs respectively.

Cockermouth were then restricted to 154-8, of which Greg Barnes made 62.

Egremont had first knock in their home game with Dalton II, and were 249-8 at tea. In reply Dalton struggled and were all out for 88.

Lindal Moor II batted first against visitors Furness II and made 239-6, then Furness were all out for 164.

Vickerstown won by 10 wickets at Cleator II. Vickerstown were 188-8 and Cleator were then all out for 125.
