Cockermouth cricket star Ben Stokes is set to return to his home club with a host of leading former England internationals this summer.

England vice captain Stokes has been instrumental in bringing a PCA England Masters side up to Sandair on Thursday, August 10 to face Cockermouth.

The all-rounder wanted to give something back to the club where he developed his game and also leave a legacy for youngsters coming through the ranks.

Top names including Mark Ramprakash, Paul Collingwood, Steve Harmison, Devon Malcolm and Marcus Trescothick are all members of the Masters squad and could be on show on the day.

The squad currently has 36 members and a team of 11 will be selected from that.

And Stokes himself, although unable to play in the Twenty20 match, will be the guest of honour at the event.

Cockermouth CC spokesman, Gareth White, said: “Ben has been very generous with his time to help us set this up.

“It is a lasting legacy that everyone will remember and a financial boost for us.

“It is an excellent opportunity for the club to make some money that will help secure the future of the club.

“And with the recent flooding we have had, this is important to us.”

The day will also see local youngsters play exhibition matches from around 11am before the match begins around 3pm.
