Cleator’s dream of a trip to Lord’s is over after they lost to Hawk Green in the sixth round of the National Village Cup.

The West Cumbrians reached the last 16 of the competition and travelled to Rhode Field on Sunday, where a gutsy performance saw them finish on 148 all out.

It wasn’t to be, as Hawk Green managed 149 for six thanks to 48 from Josh Unsworth and 35 from Pete Richards to progress.

There was better fortune for the club in the North Lancs and Cumbria League’s top flight, as they batted first against Wigton to good effect.

After their 50 overs they were 247-3, Darren Clark making 92 and Tom Sharpe 75.

In reply, Wigton could only make 142, David Rooney taking three wickets for 38 runs.

Carlisle overcame a stubborn run chase from Cockermouth to secure the points as they managed 220-7 with Marc Brown top socring with 44 as Chris Hodgson claimed 3-64.

Then Cockermouth finished on 183 all out despite fine innings from Hodgson with 65. Justin Greaves wrapped up the win for Carlisle, taking 6-21.

Furness cruised to the win against Keswick in the 29th over, making 166-5, with Mark Daly unbeaten on 41 to add to Michael Gadsden’s earlier knock of 45.

They were chasing Keswick’s 163 all out, of which pro Ayaz Tasawar made 92 before he was run out.

Workington went to a comfortable win against Dalton in the 17th over at 87-2, Tony Butler taking both wickets as Callum Moffat top scored with 27.

Dalton had been all out for 86 as Matthew Lowden returned 3-31 and Kaushalya Gajasinghe 3-27.

At the top of Division One, Lindal Moor played second-placed Whitehaven and it ended in an exciting tied game, each side both making 180 all out to take seven points each.

Lindal saw Alasdair Grunsha open with 51 before Kenroy Peters added a further 57 but Habib Baloch dispatched four batsmen for the loss of 61 runs. Whitehaven’s reply started shakily but Stephen Holliday’s 41 and Jonathan Stewart’s 57 kept them in it.

But it was John Atkinson’s 5-52 in his 15 overs which kept his side on top of the league table.

Seascale had a poor day with the bat and ball as they slumped to 76 all out against Millom, who reached 80 without loss to win the game.

Ulverston went to a good win over Workington II, the latter had made 161 all out, led by opener Stephen Miller with 35.

Ulverston won with 162-7 in the 46th over, Gareth Yates hitting 39 as Paul McKeown claimed 4-49.

Dalton were in first against Egremont and made 152 all out as Sam Thompson picked up 3-27.

Egremont opener Sam Farrar made 49 but the rest of the batting order struggled and, mainly due to Liam Curwen’s 5-30 in his 15 overs, the visitors were 129 all out.

The remaining game saw Cockermouth II all out for 109 as Kirkby’s Mike Etchells ripped through their attack to claim 5-38.

Kirkby’s Rob Fugler was unbeaten on 34 as they reached a winning score of 110-2.

In the Third Division, put into bat, Ulverston II soon lost both openers. But Jamie Butterworth with 91 and Rashid Ahmad with 36 saw the visitors to 190-8 in their 40 overs. Egremont II’s Ollie Wilford took 4-50 in his 10 overs.

In reply, the Egremont top order were soon dismissed and Wilford’s 32 helped Egremont to 122-9 when overs ran out and Ulverston took the 10 points. Rashid Ahmad took 3-6.

The top-of-the-table clash was surprisingly one-sided. Lindal Moor II won the toss, batted and totalled 148 all out in the 40th over.

Whitehaven II’s Lewis Keeler took 4-33 in his 10 overs and Clark Pattinson 3-11 in six overs.
