Cricket-loving youngsters are getting involved in the game at a tender age in Workington.

Workington Cricket Club is one of a number of clubs taking part in the England Cricket Board’s All Stars Cricket initiative.

The aim of the national initiative is to give five to eight-year-olds an enjoyable first taste of cricket.

The sessions aim to provide a fun and active way to develop youngsters’ skills in a safe and inclusive environment, and also make new friends.

Each child receives their own bat, ball, cap, water bottle, backpack and personalised T-shirt for the eight-week programme.

The scheme is targeting an age group not normally seen at cricket clubs to up participation levels nationally.

And youngsters have been heading to the Ernest Valentine Ground each Wednesday night to learn skills.
