Ship-shape Nelson

NEW team Captain Nelson have made a fine start in the Workington Sunday League, collecting a second win and taking their goal tally to 18.
Latest to feel the full force of the Maryport side’s fire-power were Flimby as they lost-out 7-2 in the division two clash.
Dean Scholey (3), Gary Stephenson (2), Greg Walling and Adam Tinnion scored the Captain Nelson goals with David Young and Steffan Miller replying for Flimby.
In other division two games Salterbeck beat Miners Arms 3-1, Seaton Village Pack Horse got off the mark with a 3-2 win over Red House, but the match between Letters Inn and Glasson Rangers was postponed because the Aspatria side couldn’t raise a team.
Only one game was played in division one and it saw Vine Bar register their first win with a 4-1 defeat of The Well.
Bluebell had been top of the premier division but that ended when they went down 3-1 at home to Red Lion. William Bowe was their goal-scorer but the Aspatria side won with goals from Kenneth Bowes (2) and Richard Hudson.
Northside won 7-2 at Deer Orchard as Mike Pickering scored four goals. Scott Musgrave, Kyle Galea and Jamie Moore scored the other goals.
Nat Mitchell and Keith Skillen were on target for Deer Orchard, back in the league’s top flight after several years away, so they were disappointed to start so poorly.
Bounty had lost their opening game to Bluebell but they bounced back in fine style, winning 4-0 at Dearham. Darren Mulgrew (2), Steven Stoddart and Tony Nicholson – against his former club – were the scorers.
There was one League Cup first round tie played in which William Hill won 4-2 at Red House Athletic. Will Heaney (2), Keith Anderson and Trevor Holm scored the goals for William Hill while Liam Dowes got both for Athletic.
