Good start for Bluebell

THE Over 35s League has kicked off its new season and includes a new team, Penrith, while Frizington have moved up in to division one.

Bluebell continued their winning form from the end of last season with a 2-1 victory over Frostoms.

Frostoms started the stronger before Bluebell’s Alan Nixon opened the scoring following confusion in the Frostoms’ penalty area.

Frostoms centre back Tommy Linford showed the forwards the way when he equalised after 30 minutes.

But in the second half a spell of pressure on the Frostoms goal told when Paul Fowler fired in the winner.

In a high scoring game Whitehaven came out on top 4-3 against Globe Hotel thanks to goals from Billy Simpson (2), Stephen Wear and Eddie Holiday. Globe replied through Simon Rickerby, Tony Allaker and Robert Bowen.

Penrith opened up their first campaign with a 1-0 victory over the Howard's Rangers, from Carlisle.

Two first-half goals from Gordon Hewitt and Gary May for Moresby against Hall Park Hotel did not reflect the play.

Hall Park never gave up and Andy Yoxhall scored a cracker late on to make the last 10 interesting but they couldn't get that equaliser.

In a close game at the Sheepmount the Carlisle derby between Carlisle Zimmers and St Bedes ended with honours even.

Carlisle City gained revenge for their County Cup final defeat last year by Netherhall. It was a close game for 70 minutes but then Ian Milburn scored twice in three minutes.

Earlier Kevin Henderson gave the Maryport side the lead only for Colin West to equalise shortly after. Michael Quinn finished the scoring in the 80th minute to make to 4-1 to Carlisle.

Silloth opened their season in winning style with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Bush, of Cockermouth, for whom Gavin Askew and Lee Williams scored.

Grasslot won a five-goal thriller with Frizington. Carl Phillips, Alan Bolton and James Routledge were the Grasslot scorers.
