On Sunday Windscale and Penrith met in the semi-final of the League Shield, the first competitive derby game between these two team for a few years.
Windscale 1
Penrith Ut 2
It was a nervous and cautious start by both and the first 15 minutes produced very little goalmouth action.
It was Windscale who broke the deadlock as Sharon Cameron continued her recent goal-scoring form, finishing after the ball had rebounded back to her in the area.
But Windscale’s bad habits which have plagued them all season again left them frustrated as they conceded a soft equaliser minutes after taking the lead and failed to convert further chances of their own.
Into the second half Windscale drove forward pinning Penrith back but with more chances going a missing Penrith seized their opportunity to take the lead with a well-worked corner.
Windscale pressed for the remainder of the game but only managed to force the keeper into one more fine save as everything else failed to be on target.
The final whistle left the Windscale players dejected and Penrith looking forward to a final against Chorley.
This Sunday is Windscale’s last home game for the season, they play Preston.
