In winning the cup they had to beat the newly-crowned division one champions Dearham and did so with a 2-0 victory.

Goals from man-of-the-match Jack Kirkbride and Trevor Holm gave William Hill the trophy.

They went on to claim the division two crown on Tuesday night when they beat Hall Park Hotel 9-0 with goals from Lee Rogerson (3), James Routledge (3), Trevor Holm (2) and Stephen Wood.

That edged them ahead of Curwen Arms on goal difference as they had also beaten Letters Inn 3-1 in their penultimate game. Routledge, Holm and Daniel Burgess scored the goals with Tom Grant netting for Letters.

Dearham had won the division one title also on goal difference after beating their closest rivals Deer Orchard 4-1.

Gavin Manchester (2), Sean Smith and Tony Nicholson scored for the village side with Nat Mitchell netting for the Orchard.

Portland will play Yankees Bar in the final premier game on Tuesday three points clear of their rivals and with a hugely superior goal difference.

They will not want to win it on goal difference, though, especially as they lost their unbeaten record on Tuesday. They went down 2-0 at Red Lion for whom Kenneth Bowes and Richard Hudson were on target.

A week earlier they had beaten Bounty 6-1 with goals from Kevin Connolly (2), Gary Hodgson (2), Paul White and David O’Donnell. Anthony Harris scored for the Maryport side.

On Sunday they overcame Northside 6-3 and this time Hodgson scored a hat-trick and Connolly was on target twice. Graham Peers scored the sixth with Andrew Calipo, Kyle Galea and Jamie Moore netting for the opposition.

Grasslot Welfare have finished off with two wins in division two to confirm third place.

They beat Hall Park 3-1 with goals from Paul Carter (2) and Mark Brown and then beat town rivals Glasson Rangers 7-1.

Brown (2), Karl Fillingham (2), Rhys Morgan, Gavin Walling and Mike Walling scored the goals.

Sean Pilling netted for Hall Park while William Fox was the goal-scorer for Glasson.

That leaves the following games to be played:

Sunday - County Cup final: Gleneden v Portland. Tuesday - Premier: Yankees Bar Utd v Portland.

Sunday, May 11 - President’s Cup final: Moorclose v Portland.

n There have been three interesting Team of the Month awards selected by individual members of the management committee.

Ken Bragg chose Miners Arms Workington in the premier division for their remarkable disciplinary record - no cards, red or yellow, throughout the season and for their administrative procedures.

Referee Steve Dobinson selected Moorclose in division one for their exemplary sportsmanship.

In a game against William Hill, Moorclose admitted that the ball had crossed the line and a goal scored against them when the Dobinson was unsighted and unable to make a decision.

Graham Caton gave Letters Inn the division two award for agreeing to play all their matches away from home when there were problems with their pitch.
