Ged’s Serbs stung by Lebanon

GED Stokes’ Serbia went down narrowly to Lebanon yesterday in their Euro-Med clash in Beirut.

The hosts scored a 67th minute 80-metre converted try to ensure a tense finish, Lebanon winning the match with a late penalty goal.

The Haven boss had been asked to take charge of Serbia after travelling to the country last week as a coaching advisor.

The RL European Federation is looking at the feasibility of inviting Serbia, Lebanon and Russia to join Scotland, Wales and Ireland in a Nations Cup tournament next year.

LEEDS’ heroic Grand Final triumph over St Helens is a career highlight for the Rhinos’ England captain Jamie Peacock.

The forward won a fifth Super League ring on Saturday from a seventh appearance at Old Trafford – and rated it even higher than his emotional farewell with Bradford in 2005.
