Whitehaven youngster Kurtis Quinn has thanked coaches James Coyle and Peter Williams for helping him overcome a ‘nightmare’ year.

The forward was initially ruled out of the 2015 campaign after sustaining a serious shoulder injury in pre-season, but he has since battled back and made four appearances.

“It’s been a long year for me being sat on the sidelines,” Quinn said.

“But I’ve had a lot of help from the backroom staff, my family and Amy [Kirkbride] the physio who helped get me back on the field and up to match fitness.

“At the start of the year I was ruled out for the full season but we said any game I got would be a bonus and we’re building from that.

“There’s a professional environment at the club and James and Pete have gradually got me back into the grand scheme of things at a reasonable pace, I owe them a massive thank you.

“Pete has a lot of experience working with youngsters which has helped me after a big injury.

“He talks a lot about the ‘one-percenters’ to get me back on the field and help me remember the things I may have forgotten in that time. He’s been a massive help and it’s great to be back playing.

“The biggest thing I’ve learned this year is that you get out as much as you put in.

“I was back to square one and taken on board a lot of advice from different people.”

Reflecting on his side’s current run of form, which has seen Haven lose their last three games, Quinn added: “We’ve had a lot of people switching positions and a lot of injuries but the lads have put 100 per cent in and I’m we’ll finish on a high and stay in this league.”

Quinn has been named in the 19-man squad for tomorrow’s game against Doncaster at The Recreation Ground, kick-off 6.30pm.

If Haven lose they will have to wait for Hunslet’s fixture against Batley to finish - the Hawks need to win and overcome a 58-point deficit to consign Haven to relegation.

Haven’s 19-man squad: Aiye, Beaumont, Brooks, Calvert, Chamberlain, Chapelhow, Coyle, Davies, Fox, Gore, Griffiths, Hepi, Holliday, Newton, Parker, Quinn, Robinson, Taylor, Wilde
