Haven's stars will receive a cash bonus from their loyal fans if they win Sunday's crucial tie at Oldham.

Supporter Michael Rothery is asking anyone connected with the club to pledge a donation, as an extra incentive to the players to spur them on to victory.

A win at their nearest rivals Oldham will give Haven a fighting chance of avoiding relegation. They will then have to beat Swinton on the final day of the season and hope that Oldham lose.

Mr Rothery is appealing to fans, supporters, advertisers, sponsors and general well wishers.

He said: "Seemingly all the games we have had this year have been described as 'massive' - well none of them really compare to Sunday's trip to Oldham.

"This is our make or break game, if we win we are in with a chance if we lose we could face relegation and an uncertain future.

"I am wanting to kick off a fund of pledges from you all to give the lads a good incentive to win.

"Accordingly I will start it off with £100 and I have already had pledges of £100 from the chairman, Phil Barwise and Kenny Shepherd and a £25 pledge from Joan Ruddy. That's £425 straight away.

"It doesn't matter how much you pledge every £5 will count. Let's show the lads that we appreciate their magnificent effort at Dewsbury and that we are willing them on to win at Oldham

"If they play like they did on Sunday it will be a great result and one of the most famous in the club's history.

"We can all claim to have played a small part in that victory so I ask you to please dig as deep as you can and show the lads how much we love the club and how much it means to us all and how much we appreciate their efforts."

All pledges can be forwarded to michaelrothery@live.com

Haven chairman Tommy Todd was delighted with the idea and says it shows how much the fans are willing to get behind the club and the players.

"I think it is a lovely gesture where anyone can go and pledge their support," he said.

"It is a fantastic show of support and an added incentive for the players to go to Oldham and get the win that we need.

"We can't do anything without our fans. Whether they are coming through the gate, at the bar or buying a lottery ticket, if the fans didn't do it we would struggle.

"Often the fans are the unsung heroes at clubs and we really appreciate all that they do."

Todd is well aware of what this game means to his club, who are going to go all out to try and avoid the drop from the Championship.

He added: "Every game has been massive for us but this is the big one. It is D-Day.

"It is the most important game in a very long time. In fact I can't remember one that was more important.

"If we are relegated the loss of finance immediately is £75,000 so we start next season without that so it is massive that we try to stay up.

"The players' performance against Dewsbury was amazing, they were just incredible in the second half.

"Instead of tiring we just seemed to start scoring at will. The forwards were just taking it in and smashing into their defence.

"It was a brilliant game to watch but now we look forward to this game and it is paramount."

The club is conducting a trial run of a new format for next season.

Fans can now take a seat in the Purdham Suite and be treated to lunch, a reserved seat, drinks and access to players and coaches.

And if there is a larger party, between 20 and 30, there is the opportunity to take over the boardroom. For more details contact the club on 01946 328088.
