Whitehaven hope to name their new coach this week as they prepare for life in League One.

A financial projection for next year, along with a revised budget and business plan were all being discussed by the board members last night.

It will then be a question of speaking again with the men already interviewed to see how they react to the reduced budget following relegation.

Whitehaven already know that some of their travelling men will be moving on next season with Dave Allen (Hunslet), Ben Davies (Oldham) and Grant Gore (Swinton) expected to make those switches in the next few days.

Carl Forster, however, has committed himself to Whitehaven again and that news was a big boost to the club and supporters.

Whitehaven, it seems, want to build their 2017 team around a hardcore of locally-based players with men like Forster providing the mix of class and experience.

Director Mark Stamper has thanked the efforts of the travelling players during their time at Whitehaven.

“The ones that do move on, we would like to wish them all the best for their future careers and thank them for their efforts with our club,” he said.

In League One, Whitehaven will come up against their former coach James Coyle who has just been appointed in charge of Hunslet Hawks.

Interestingly he has named Steve Deakin, the man who took him to Whitehaven, as his assistant.

Deakin had only a short time in charge of Haven and quit for personal reasons, just ahead of the 2015 season.

Meanwhile, Whitehaven ended the season on a high with the 40-18 home win over Swinton Lions, which was followed by an upbeat presentation night.

Dave Allen took two of the main awards: Away Supporters Player of the Year and Players’ Player.

The other trophy winners were: Young player – Conor Holliday; Directors Player – Chris Taylor; Supporters player – James Newton; Home try of the season, Louis Jouffret v Leigh; away try of the season, Jordan Burns v Swinton. Clubman of the year – a shared award to the Whitehaven groundstaff.
