Whitehaven captain Scott McAvoy says his side fears no one ahead of the start of their Super 8s campaign against Featherstone Rovers on Sunday.

Haven travel to The Big Fellas Stadium after playing their final regular season game there against the Rovers, coming out on top as 29-0 winners.

The back-row forward believes that his side’s result last week will make the other seven teams in the Championship Shield competition stand up and take notice.

“We’re delighted to get the win and to nil Featherstone on their home ground will send a bit of a shock through the league,” he said. “If we can keep this form in the Super 8s we’ve got no problem.

“We don’t fear anybody and if we play as half as good as we did last weekend we’ll be fine.

“The win proves what we have believed all year – we are a good team and what we showed was how good we can actually play.

“If we had done that during a few more games in the season we wouldn’t be where we are in the table at the moment.

“We stuck to our system for most of that game and we scored 29 points against an excellent Featherstone side.

“I don’t want to single anyone out from that game because everyone was outstanding.”

Haven finished in 10th place on points difference after both Workington Town and Batley Bulldogs won on the final day of the regular season.

As a result, they have three home games and four away fixtures, the first of which is against the Rovers this Sunday.

“We weren’t looking to kill the game off when we went ahead,” McAvoy continued. “We were looking to score points throughout and I’m very proud of the lads for that. It was a win I want to dedicate to our fans.

“There was a little bit of luck but it’s about time we had the rub of the green, we’ve not had any luck all season and everyone put in 110 per cent and our hard work paid off in the second half.

“We played for ourselves and as a team and it’s hard to beat any side that plays like that.”
