Whitehaven general manager Amanda Hewer has expressed her delight at the progress that the Widnes Vikings’ dual-registration players have made at the club.

Ed Chamberlain, Ted Chapelhow and Grant Gore have played important roles in the Haven team throughout the season and full-back Chamberlain tops the points-scoring charts in the Championship Shield after four games.

The youngster has scored 48 points in the first four weeks, putting him seven points ahead of Hunslet’s Danny Brown in second place.

“Ed’s been a fantastic player for us for most of the year,” Hewer said. “He’s one of the most consistent players we’ve had this season and he’s a fantastic goal-kicker.

“Goal-kicking had been a worry for us at the start of the season but he’s stepped up and has been fantastic for us.”

Hewer hopes that the success of the link-up with Widnes has shown that dual-registration can work and is keen to see the partnership continue in future.

“I think the way we have used dual-registration has been different,” she continued. “We have had some one-off big names make appearances for us but the majority of players who have turned out for us have been youngsters who are looking to come through the system.”
