Whitehaven have secured the services of prop Richie Beaumont who has agreed to join the club on a permanent basis for the 2016 season.

Beaumont was originally loaned to Haven from Leigh earlier this year before being released from his contract in order to join the club ahead of the Super 8s phase of the competition.

He has since become a key member of the Haven side as they bid to avoid relegation and aim for a spot in the Championship Shield play-offs.

Speaking about the move, Haven head coach James Coyle said: “I think this is an outstanding signing for the club.

“To be honest, we didn’t expect we would be able to keep him.

“He’s enjoying his rugby league up here and he was happy to sign with us.

“He’s 26 and has a lot of experience in rugby league, he’s become a real leader in our squad and being a prop at such a young age is no easy task.

“He’s a professional player, he trains hard, he prepares properly and looks after himself properly.

“It’s fantastic for the club that he has committed and he joins the likes of Dave Allen, Dion Aiye and Sam Brooks, as well as the other players who are already signed up for next year.”

Beaumont has made 12 appearances for Haven this season, scoring one try. He missed last weekend’s fixture against Featherstone but has been named in the 19-man squad for tomorrow’s game against London Broncos.

Meanwhile, centre Jessie Joe Parker has been named in the 19-man squad after serving a four-game ban.

The centre was handed a spell on the sidelines for a dangerous throw in Haven’s fixture against Doncaster in June and is set to make his first appearance back at the club in tomorrow night’s game against London, kick-off 6.30pm.

“Jessie’s definitely in contention for the game tomorrow,” Haven boss James Coyle said.

“He’s been training hard and he’s probably in better nick than he has been all year.

“I think his spell on the sidelines has given him a bit of hunger to get out there and get playing because it’s never easy being on the sidelines.

“It’s been well documented that it’s been tough for him but he’s had a lot of support from everyone at the club.”

Youngster Connor Holliday has also been named in the 19-man squad and could make his first appearance since Haven’s 32-16 defeat to Bradford in May.

“Connor is looking really sharp and it’s the first time I’ve been confident in putting him in the side since his injury,” Coyle continued.

“I’ve got to give him a lot of credit because it’s got to be difficult doing rehab and making sure you’re looking after yourself while you’re injured.

“I’ve been saying to him all along that he’s unlikely to play in every game but when he’s called upon he’s needed to be ready.”
