Haven youngster Jordan Burns is making great strides forward as he improved his all-round game said boss James Coyle.

Burns has put in two impressive performances over the last couple of weeks against Oldham and Swinton and is catching the eye.

"He played well at the weekend and I thought he was good the week before as well," said Coyle.

"His workrate was outstanding and the quality of what he did on Sunday was a lot better.

"We have had a chat and he knows he has to combine those two things, his workrate and quality and that is the performance he is looking for.

"He needs to get involved in the game more and the more he gets into it the more problems he will cause for defences and save our forwards.

"So I am hoping he can step up again on Saturday."

This Saturday it is Featherstone Rovers who head to the Recreation Ground for their Championship encounter, ko 6.30pm.

Coyle was disappointed with their narrow four-point defeat at the hands of Swinton last weekend and hopes to put things right at home.

"It is very tight in that league but there are a lot of games still to play but we have got to keep improving our performances," said Coyle.

"The main thing for us is that we are not far away from being a really good team.

"Everyone has to realise that there are no bad teams in this league.

"Workington are not a bad side they have just struggled to get a result. They were only four points short at Halifax, which in terms of a performance is great."

Coyle is not reading too much into his side's position or their narrow defeats, he is just looking straight ahead.

He added: "You can be one per cent off your game and make two or three errors and concede 24 points and that's how tight this league is.

"If you look at our results, if we could have got the win at Batley when we lost by a point and then there was a 50/50 call against London and another one at the weekend.

"I would be more concerned about those results if we were playing at 100 per cent. I still think we have a lot of improvement in us.

"If we could have got those results, then it might have brought more confidence but we can't read too much into them.

"We have to focus on the way we are playing and we are not far away."
