Haven chairman Tommy Todd has paid tribute to the four-man coaching team who led the club to victory on the final day of the season.

Despite being relegated from the Championship, Haven held their heads high to put on a superb display against Swinton Lions and run out 40-18 winners on Sunday.

And Todd admitted that players Craig Calvert, Carl Forster, Scott McAvoy and Dave Allen had done a sterling job motivating the side since the departure of coach James Coyle.

"It was a really nice way to finish the season," said Todd.

"These lads have all stepped up to the plate and tried their hardest. When we got beat at Oldham they were all absolutely devastated for the fans and the club.

"But they stepped up again and gave 100 per cent and I couldn't ask for more than that.

"We wanted to win that last match for the fans which is what they did.

"That team was playing for the fans, they were more relaxed with the pressure taken off."

Todd was hoping that Haven would be in a position to name the new coach to take them into League One this week.

He admitted it has been a difficult decision with applicants locally and from further afield.

"We have considered everyone but we now have it down to a small number," said Todd.

"Ideally we would like to sort it out by the end of this week but at present negotiations are still ongoing."
