Wakfield Wildcat Anthony Walker is back at Whitehaven to boost the pack ahead of Saturday’s crunch home Championship game against Sheffield, ko 6.30pm.

Walker has rejoined Haven until the end of the season on loan from the Super League outfit.

And general manager Amanda Hewer says it is fantastic news the prop is back at the Recreation Ground.

“This gives the team a huge boost just when they need it,” said Hewer.

“He is a really tough player who never backs down from anything and he is quick.

“He is just what we need in the middle of the park right now.”

Walker was on loan at Haven earlier this term but was recalled by Wakefield, who sent another forward Andy Yates up to Cumbria in his place.

Yates has one match of his loan spell remaining before he will rejoin Wakefield but it is not clear if he will play against Sheffield after picking up an injury in last weekend’s derby at Workington.

“Andy picked up an injury to his cheekbone early in the game at Town so we are waiting to see if he will play this weekend,” added Hewer.

“It would be great if we had them both for this match. They are completely different players as Andy will take the ball in all day for you and Anthony can give you something special.”

After the last-gasp defeat at the hands of Town on Sunday, Haven are determined to try and bag the two points on offer against Sheffield in the last match of the ordinary season, before the Super Eights begin.

Hewer said: “These are always big games going into the Eights, every match is like a play-off.

“We have to take as many points as we can from each game.”

And Hewer admitted that Haven also want to see Town remain in the Championship with them, for the benefit of rugby league in the county.

“I don’t want one of us going up and one going down, that is not good for the area or for either club,” she said.

“We both need to stand up and fight and keep ourselves in this division.”

Haven still have injury problems ahead of the Sheffield game with several players facing late fitness tests.

French full-back Louis Jouffret is still struggling with a calf problem and Chris Taylor has a hamstring injury.

Liam Carberry is doubtful for this weekend while Jessie Joe Parker will be another two to three weeks away with his hamstring.

But in good news for the club, Elliott Miller could make his return in the Super Eights. The winger is about three to four weeks away.

The Super Eight fixtures will be released after this weekend’s round of matches but clubs will have a free weekend before they kick off.
